TRAINING, EDUCATION &

TRAINING, EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION Foundation launched to boost boating and employment A not-for-profit marine industry initiative - The Marine Industry Foundation (MIF) - has been established to broaden community access to the benefits of recreational boating and to assist employment within the marine industry. First discussed in 2014 by prominent marina industry businessman and former Marine Industries Association (MIA) chairman and director Jeff d’Albora, it has received unanimous support from the boards of the MIA and the Boating Industry Alliance Australia (BIAA). MIF is registered by the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission and is a joint venture initiative of the MIA and the BIAA. Its activities are directed by a board comprising Jeff d’Albora, MIF chairman; the MIA president; and the BIAA chairman. The public officer is the MIA executive officer. An initial AU,000 in funding to establish the Foundation was provided by Jeff d’Albora with a further AU0,000 available to be matched by other donors on a dollar for dollar basis. BIAA chairman Darren Vaux said the Foundation will be seeking support from both the marine industry and the boating community. “Industry and boaters appreciate the economic, social and recreational benefits of boating. Donations to the Foundation will flow into programmes and scholarships enabling more people to benefit from boating.” Committees are being established to carry out designated tasks. A Fund Raising Committee is charged with implementing strategies to attract donations and funding. A Fund Allocation Committee will be responsible for implementing strategies to assess applications and provide funding for individuals, groups or existing Not for Profits in line with the vision Prominent marina and mission of industry businessman, the Foundation. Jeff d’Albora, initiated discussions for the The new Marine Industry Foundation’s Foundation. mission will focus on two activities: to provide support to disadvantaged groups and groups disconnected from recreational boating with access to boating experiences and skills; and to provide opportunities for employment, education and training within the marine industry. More information will be available when the Foundation’s website is officially launched. Specific industry and community support initiatives will be announced and fund raising events and opportunities will commence. 38 www.marinaworld.com - March/April 2016

Classics to Poole... A selection of Rolec’s ever popular Classic pedestals has been installed at West Quay Pontoons (above) in Poole, Dorset, UK, to provide services for Sunseeker vessels. The installation comprised 750mm Rolec blue Classic pedestals with a mixture of 16amp, 32amp and 63amp sockets, 1/2in and 11/2in water taps and LED illumination. They will service over 20 Sunseeker boats that have been sold and are awaiting collection by their new owners. West Quay Pontoons also chose to install further Rolec products in addition to the pedestals. These include mains and shore isolation panels, distribution units and low level emergency cabinets. Sunseeker, which was purchased in 2013 by the Chinese Wanda Group, remains a British company proud of its heritage. It has been building luxury yachts in Poole since 1969 and is committing to major expansion this year. “All of us at Rolec, a fellow British company that has been in business for over 25 years, are proud to have supplied products which will be regularly used by Sunseeker vessels,” said Rolec sales director Martin Georgeson. Cost-conscious lighting Recognising the increasing popularity of LED lights, Rolec is now offering LED kits in four-way, six-way, eight-way and ten-way versions. All can include LED drivers, driver enclosures and leads for each light. The company recommends LED combination lighting for marina decking, access bridges and quaysides and cites a host of advantages: longer life and hence better economy; lower maintenance; and a wide range of colour options. According to Rolec, LED lighting offers up to ten times the life expectancy of conventional lighting and purchase costs have reduced dramatically in recent years. DOCKSIDE PRODUCTS ... and distribution in Spain Grupo Lindley companies that are targeting Spain as an area of growth for their harbour and marina equipment activity have signed a three-year exclusive distribution agreement with Rolec Services for all Spanish territories. The contract was signed by Spanish company Almarin to reinforce its range of marina products. Almarin will support Lindley in developing products such as power and water service pedestals, pump-out units, and more, for marinas in the Iberian Peninsula. Lindley is a turnkey marina and harbour equipment supplier that has been Rolec’s distributor in Portugal since 1997. Both Lindley and Almarin are part of Grupo Lindley, a marine equipment manufacturer and distributor founded in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1930 by a British engineer.
