Safe Harbor makes debut as largest marina owner in United States USA: Safe Harbor Marinas, a company formed in 2015 and backed by American Infrastructure MLP (AIM) funds, made its formal debut as the largest owner and operator of marinas in the United States at the International Marina & Boatyard Conference (IMBC) in January. The company recently completed acquisitions from four separate marina owners and operators and has plans to aggressively grow through future acquisitions. The Safe Harbor Marinas management team comprises industry veterans with an average of 30 years of marina experience. The company currently owns/manages 31 marinas across 12 US states, which collectively offer over 20,000 wet and dry slips. Safe Harbor is currently processing additional acquisitions and looking to selectively buy coastal and inland marinas, either through the purchase of whole portfolios or select individual properties. The company expects to deploy over 0 million of capital in acquisitions through its equity and debt commitments and, in certain situations, will consider bringing in marina owners as equity partners. “We have created a brand and strategy that will benefit marina owners, operators and the boating community in both the short term and the long term,” said Safe Harbor CEO, Marshall Funk. “As a result of our scale, all of our properties will benefit from additional revenue and cost saving opportunities.” Consultants appointed for Northfleet UK: MDL Marina Consultancy, a division of MDL Marinas Group, has been commissioned to carry out an outline development plan and feasibility study at the historic Northfleet Harbour site on the lower Thames. The harbour is cut off from the river by modern flood defences and has become derelict. Selected for the project by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) and the Northfleet Harbour Restoration Trust, MDL has been tasked to look at the technical and commercial viability of reopening Northfleet as a community harbour and marina. MDL will give specialist advice on the marine leisure market, marina design and financial viability. The company is well placed to carry out the study due to its operational experience, having completed numerous similar projects for its own portfolio and for other clients. Alex Beere, head of consultancy and technical services at MDL Marinas, described the opportunity WORLD NEWS as exciting. “It will see us explore the viability of re-opening the harbour to develop a marina that will create value for the surrounding community, whilst bringing the heritage of the site to life,” he said. MDL Marina Consultancy will work alongside Peter Brett Associates (PBA) and Land Water Services (LAWS) who will provide the engineering and contractor input needed to assess the overall technical viability and cost of construction. PBA will also be supporting with advice on environmental considerations to be addressed as the project moves forward, as well as analysing the wider benefit of a marina in this location.
