Revamp completes at St Katharine Docks UK: The refurbishment of all three basins at St Katharine Docks in London is due to complete by the end of this month (January). The central basin was refurbished in time to welcome the famous Clipper Race fleet on 31 st July 2016 and the east and west basins are nearly ready for hand over to general manager Paul Tetlow. The involvement of leading industry experts and suppliers has ensured that the changes made give the historic docks a new lease of life, with a modern marina layout designed by Camper & Nicholsons Marinas (C&N Marinas), new pontoons manufactured by Poralu and services installed by Maricer. “Operationally and aesthetically, the marina has seen dramatic improvements, with its new berth layout, more efficient use of the waterspace, safer and improved services, and all round cleaner lines,” said C&NM technical and projects director Bill Green. He also noted the challenges of working around listed infrastructures and overcoming the logistical problems of getting equipment in and out of a site that remained in the public domain. WORLD NEWS The marina was largely operational throughout the refurbishment process. St Katharine Docks can now accommodate a wider range of boat sizes up to 40m (131ft) at timber decked curved pontoons that have been designed to follow the lines of the quayside. Premium gates have also been added bearing the Poralu Marine signature. Inland and Coastal Marina Systems (ICMS) of Ireland handled the logistics and the installation. By the end of February, the entire marina will be fully operational and handed over to C&N Marinas to manage on behalf of the Blackstone Group. • • • • • • • • • • • • www.marinaworld.com - January/February 2017 11
