WORLD NEWS Outer marina opens at Nanny Cay Multiple options at IWMC NETHERLANDS: Over 200 marina professionals from 39 countries took part in the ninth ICOMIA World Marinas Conference (IWMC) in Amsterdam 17 th -19 th November 2016. The event dovetailed with the final day of METSTRADE. Keynote speaker Adjiedj Bakas examined the future of leisure around the world, looked at boating and marine market trends and urged marinas to focus more on offering a community lifestyle. Follow-on speakers and panellists examined current thinking in terms of global marina operations; new ideas and trends; redevelopment of marinas; success with superyachts; concessions and financing; environmental legislation; water planning; marketing; and uniting the public and private sector. In addition to attending the conference proceedings, delegates enjoyed a welcome dinner and had access to a greatly enlarged Marina & Yard Pavilion (MYP) at METSTRADE where they could network with 64 exhibiting companies. They were also able to book one-to-one meetings at a business matchmaking event. Keynote speaker Adjiedj Bakas On the final day, a large party of delegates enjoyed an excellent field trip, travelling by land and water to visit Marina Volendam, Marina Enkhuizen and Marina Muiderzand. IWMC 2016 was organised by the ICOMIA Marinas Group in partnership with RAI Amsterdam and was hosted by the HISWA Holland Marine Industry Association. The 2018 IWMC event will be held early in the year in Auckland and will be organised by the New Zealand Marina Operators Association. “This conference will again be a perfect opportunity to accelerate contacts and new investments, generate ideas and trends to make marinas more sustainable, and enable the expansion of marina chains and consortium on an international level,” commented Roberto Perocchio, chairman of the ICOMIA Marinas Group. BVI: A new outer marina opened on 12 th December 2016 at Nanny Cay in Tortola. When fully complete, it will almost double the dock facilities to 300 slips, split between the inner and outer marina. Currently, 42 slips are operational along the mangrovelined shore and a further 78 should be in place by August. The total of 120 slips is suitable for yachts of 30 to 75ft (9 to 23m) with T-heads and a bulkhead capable of berthing megayachts up to 150ft (46m) in length. Nanny Cay will be able to dock up to ten vessels of over 100ft (30m). The 6.5 acre outer marina peninsula will also have eight new condo blocks, each with three four-bedroom and four threebedroom condo units; enhanced walkways and recreation areas; a new restaurant; gym and wellness centre; and new commercial retail and service space.
