In Spain, Mataró Marina Barcelona opened with berths for around 30 large yachts up to 50m (164ft). The marina is equipped with all modern services and an extensive service area. Off the coast, a 700-berth facility for local boats up to 10m (33ft) opened in Gibraltar, complemented by a fixed breakwater, which acts as both a public promenade and a mooring pier for superyachts and passenger vessels. The complete facility – Mid Harbour Small Boats Marina, Public Promenade and Super Yacht Wharf – was described as “the largest one-off marina engineering project in the EU in many decades.” Meanwhile, in Portugal, Macau Legend Development Ltd signed an MoU with the Setúbal Municipality for the proposed development of an integrated leisure, tourism and entertainment project. The marina will offer berths for vessels up to 28m (92ft). Dedicated and shared berths will be available for visiting yachts of up to 24m (79ft) and, during the tourist season, the 120m (394ft) outer breakwater will welcome superyachts of up to 50m (164ft). Finally, in the north of Europe, New Port Imatra, an extensive but run-down 700-berth marina on Finland’s Lake Saimaa, became the ninth marina in Marinetek’s New Port Marina chain. Marinetek joined forces with stateowned company Meritaito Ltd to offer the city of Imatra a complete package to operate, renovate and finally rebuild the marina.
