PRODUCTS & SERVICES App

PRODUCTS & SERVICES App goes global Blue Water App, a product designed to help boat owners reserve a suitable berth in the marina of their choice, is set to gain further ground amongst international marinas due to the backing of a new external investor. Established in 2013, the app is free for sailors to download and can be used in ports that have a Blue Water App licence. Available ports are shown on a digital map. Chris Drent, the Dutch CEO and mastermind behind the app, reported good feedback from visitors to the company’s stand at METSTRADE in Amsterdam in November proving that marina owners as well as yacht owners iBeacon sensors, positioned to right and left of a marina entrance, can be used to locate any yachts in the immediate area. are increasingly recognising the added value of the product. The level of interest has undoubtedly been further boosted by the recent introduction of fully integrated iBeacon technology that allows marina owners to locate yachts in the neighbourhood. This new feature provides additional business opportunities as operators can invite yachts to make a reservation via push notifications. App licences have been purchased by marinas in numerous European locations and at six marinas in the Middle East, including Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. Further boost is expected following recent collaborations with marina management companies like Havenstar and Pacsoft to develop an integrated API. Both companies have extensive experience in marine construction and are well established in their specific regions. JLD International is known for its folding anchors, sheet piling and retention walls and has skilled knowledge in how best to make transitions from land to water. “We see great potential in the Dutch market, especially for refurbishing existing marinas,” says JLD International CEO Jos Karsten. “Our own products combined with the comprehensive range of pontoons and accessories offered by Marinetek are perfect for breathing new life into old marinas.” Ostseedienst is a second generation marine construction company that has its own fleet of working barges, tugs and heavy duty marine construction machinery. Managing director, Nils Jaich, believes the new tie-in with Marinetek is a perfect fit. “With Marinetek pontoons and marina engineering skills, we can offer an impressive products and services package for waterfront projects in northern Germany,” he explains. On the basis of the cooperation, several projects were successfully completed in 2016 including Böbs-Werft Marina in Travemunde and Olpenitz Marina in Kappeln. Kristian Räme, Marinetek vice president international sales, commented: “We are excited to be working with such strong and skilful partners in two countries where there is so much ongoing potential for waterfront developments. We have known both JLD International and Ostseedienst for a long time and are confident that by working together we will have a competitive edge for all marina related projects.” Contact Marinetek in Finland at info@marinetek.net 48 www.marinaworld.com - January/February 2017
