PRODUCTS & SERVICES Mobile toilets with treatment plant Poralu Marine company CEI has launched Greencube, a modular floating toilet block pontoon fitted with a stand-alone micro sewage treatment plant. The first unit was put to use on 11th June at Cap d’Agde by SODEAL, the Society for the Development of Agde and the Coastline. Greencube is an innovative concept that will make boaters’ lives easier and make recreational yachting more ecologically sound. In Cap D’Agde the installation has four toilets, five shower cabins and a laundry, as well as a micro sewage treatment plant. The toilet block has been designed to be particularly pleasant as well as functional, with good lighting and ease of access for people with reduced mobility. The stand-alone treatment plant uses a system of slowly rotating discs, which mix and oxygenate the waste to accelerate the breakdown of bacteria naturally and radically. This is the real innovation behind Greencube and makes it viable for use on many floating structures. “Today, this stand-alone, ecological sewage treatment plant has made it possible to produce a toilet block pontoon,” says CEI-Poralu marine business manager, Fayçal Rezgui. “However, the innovation opens the way to other possible applications: floating restaurants and bars, hotels, floating houses etc.” The plant operates noiselessly and does not need to be connected to a drainage network. It does not give off odours and does not use solvents or any other pollutants. The treated water can even be reused. This means that toilet block pontoons can be positioned at various locations in a marina and in locations where connection to the drainage system is impossible or impractical e.g. too far away; too expensive from a civil engineering viewpoint; near an historic monument; or on a jetty subject to flooding. The micro-plant is completely seaworthy and has received approval from the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. It is guaranteed for 20 years. At Cap d’Agde, the toilet block will be moved around the marina to help facilitate special events.
