COMPANY FOCUS The Spinnaker pedestal, inspired by the Burj Al Arab Tower, was developed for the Palm Island Marinas. as operations director Holly Brown explains: “One of our achievements I feel really proud about is that after 25 years the majority of Rolec’s partners and associates remain the same. We are truly delighted to have been able to maintain these partnerships/friendships with leading industry figures for the past quarter of a century. We believe this is a true testament to the high quality of the products and services we manufacture and supply.” Demand throughout Europe increased over the next few years, especially in Spain, Greece and Portugal. After completing hundreds of marina projects, including a huge project in Jersey, Rolec pushed on even further and exhibited at the inaugural Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS). It continues to be a leading exhibitor at DIBS to this day. The Middle East proved a lucrative market and Rolec claims to have won 90% of the marina projects in the region. It also made headlines last year for producing the world’s largest bespoke power supply of its kind for a superyacht owned by the Emir of Qatar. This 2,000 amp, 3 phase (6,000 amp total) MegaMaster unit is nearly 7ft 6in (2.28m) tall, just under 10ft (3m) wide and includes one and two inch (2.5 and 5cm) water supplies. Business in the Middle East led to other new products, as Alsop explains: “We found that after releasing Classics in the region we were selling them quicker than we In full manufacture for 24 years, the Classic is a best-seller. Over 70,000 have been installed worldwide. could build them. We then developed two new pedestals, our Seawave for the Yas Marina project, and our dynamic Spinnaker pedestal for the Palm Island Marinas. The latter was based on the Burj Al Arab Tower and won us the world’s biggest marina project at the time.” Rolec continued to spread its wings globally, experiencing success in South America and the Caribbean at marinas such as Nelson’s Dockyard and Jolly Harbour in Antigua, before turning its focus to South East Asia. The company was one of the first from Western Europe to bring its products to marinas in the region, at a time when the South East Asia marina industry was still at an early stage of development. Since then, Rolec claims to have become the area’s main ‘go to’ marina service provider when new developments or refurbishments are required. Firsts and references Rolec also claims to offer the world’s largest range of marina service pedestals. There is a marina service pedestal for every requirement and budget. Rolec believes the superior quality and reliability of its pedestals has made it first in line to work on some of the world’s most iconic marina projects. The list is impressive and includes: • One°15 Marina, Singapore • Jersey Harbour • The Pearl • The Palm • Limassol Marina • Portland Harbour Olympic Marina • Valencia Yacht Club • Sovereign Harbour • Port Forum, Barcelona • And many more, including supplying The Baliza is particularly suited to harsh environments. products and services for leading global events such as the Americas Cup, the Tall Ships Race in Russia, the Volvo Ocean Race, etc. “For more than two decades we have been dedicated to providing bespoke ship-to-shore services to the world’s marina industry,” Holly Brown explains. “During this time, we have invested substantial resources into developing a range of marina products and services that have proved to be ideal solutions. Proof of this lies in the number of customers who return to us time and again because we know their environments.” “We pride ourselves on researching and accruing detailed local knowledge of the regions around the world, which includes having a thorough understanding of climatic conditions, corrosive elements, local trends, utility specifications, salt water and humidity levels, and the types of boats traditionally in use in the area,” she continues. In addition to developing the products it brings to the marina services market, Rolec has also expanded its product range to offer solutions for sanitation and LED lighting. It is also proud to have been the first marina services provider to offer computerised management systems. “Rolec has had an abundance of milestones over the years - too many to mention,” Alsop notes. “We are a pioneering company, always coming up with new installation methods and ways to bring marina services up to date. This has included introducing a variety of berth management and smartcard systems – the latest of which is a GSM/ SimCard operated management system linked to banking systems.” www.marinaworld.com - November/December 2015 35
