DOCKSIDE PRODUCTS Installation to start at Panama resort Spanish marina builder Ronautica Marinas has selected HyPower dockside pedestals for a project currently under way at Vista Mar Golf and Beach Resort in Panama. Located in Coronado, an hour away from Panama City, on the rugged Esmeralda Coast, Vista Mar covers an area of 300ha (741.3 acres) and features a golf course, beach resort, clubhouse, condominiums, townhouses, apartments and a marina with 206 slips for vessels of 40 to 120 feet (12 to 36.5m). The design comprises four rows of aluminium framed, composite decked floating pontoons moored by steel piles. Ronautica was awarded the turnkey project and piling contract and has worked on the marina with its regional agent Tecnopuertos. Two of the four pontoon arms were ready to be fitted with power and water services as Marina World went to press working to an electrical design provided by HyPower, which is The Vista Mar pontoon system, built and installed by Ronautica and its agent Tecnopuertos, is now ready for HyPower pedestals. supplying everything from the substations and wire to pedestals and dock fire protection. “For Ronautica this seamless approach makes it easier to plan and manage the entire process,” said Eric Farley, director of sales for HyPower. “And for us it is an honour to work with them and their project manager.” Ronautica is currently using HyPower power pedestals on several projects. The patented PowerSnap technology found in the PowerPort and EnergyMate allows marina customers to quickly service a unit and thus save money. The ability to switch receptacles for customers as needed also raises the level of service offered. Key features include low maintenance, system versatility and the opportunity for marina operators to generate income beyond the usual charges for electricity and water. As Leonardo is a modular system, the types of electrical sockets – two or four from 16amp to 250amp – can be changed at will without having to move or replace the pedestal. Electrical boxes can be replaced and repositioned with the pedestal angled backwards but in situ. Empty electrical boxes can be inserted during the winter and thus protect the pedestals from wear and tear, theft and vandalism. When faulty boxes are removed and sent for repair, new boxes can be inserted to ensure that the pedestal remains in service. The Leonardo monitor runs via Sea Wolf software, which allows boaters and marina guests to access useful information. It is also a vehicle for revenuegenerating advertising. The graphics software is easy to use and customers can enter pictures, text or small commercials independently without any guidance from MGA. All units are also designed to accommodate an air conditioning system. This comprises an external condensing unit, which is positioned inside the pedestal; an interior unit that is delivered to the yacht; and a 10 to 15m (32.8 to 49.2ft) long connecting sheathed pipe. This contains two pipes of the refrigerant gas and a low-voltage cable for temperature regulation. The same module runs on all pedestals and AC units can be bought according to customer demand. Built using solid 316 L stainless steel and coated with wood plastic composite slats that resemble marina decking, Leonardo is environmentally friendly.
